The genesis of the Espace
Why not ?
If the life of a painter is an endless ascent made of steep embankments leading the climber closer to the summits of painting, then it means he sees his own trade as a gigantic form of art that is capable to tell everything there is to say, as long as no short-sighted notion is forced on it. And it so happens that round the bend, adventures loom into view… Eymoutiers’ Espace Rebeyrolle is an adventure, to me.
When Daniel Perducat, the mayor, with the support of the municipal council and a few true friends, came to me and asked me to consider doing something here, my first response was to reply: ‘No!’
And then I understood that Eymoutiers, where I was born, meant a lot to me; that I had a strong, meaningful relationship with the town; that generally speaking, I loved the Limousin region and the peculiar characters of its inhabitants.
And so ten years ago now, I accept to jump into the venture.
